The EU Forced Labour Regulation (FLR) is legislation that prohibits the sale, import, and export of products made with forced labour within the European Union. Enacted in December 2024, the FLR applies to all companies operating in the EU, regardless of size or origin. It defines forced labour in alignment with International Labour Organization standards, encompassing all work extracted under threat of penalty and for which the person has not offered themselves voluntarily. The regulation mandates that companies ensure their products are not produced, in whole or in part, with forced labour at any stage of the supply chain, including extraction, production, and manufacturing. Non-compliance can result in products being banned from the EU market, withdrawal orders, and disposal requirements. The FLR aims to promote ethical business practices and protect human rights by eliminating forced labour from global supply chains.
